Cool Food for KidsPromote Frozens as Cool Food for Kids in October
NFRA is bringing frozen foods to families this fall! The October promotion is Cool Food for Kids, an educational outreach program that will teach children and their families about timely health topics such as portion control and a balanced diet, while driving home the convenience and quality that frozen foods provide. Educational curriculum is being produced by Young Minds Inspired and will be distributed to 40,000 elementary schools. That’s double the number of schools from last year. NFRA will bring the promotion in-store with Cool Food for Kids POS and more. Keep watching for more details in the coming months!

Member News

Lakeside Foods announced the following personnel changes: Gwen Anschutz has been named Accounts Payable Supervisor. Prior to joining Lakeside, Anschutz was employed by Sun Cleaning Systems as their Controller. Greg Kolarik has been named Manager of Procurement. Prior to joining Lakeside, Greg was employed in procurement for Schreiber Foods and Enzymatic Therapy, Inc. in Green Bay. Nanci Geiser has been named Systems Analyst/Programmer. Geiser has over eleven years of IT experience at the Salvatorian Center in New Holstein. Tony Herzog has been named Operations Manager at Lakeside Foods’ Random Lake Plant. Herzog joined Lakeside in 2007 and was promoted to Manager of Contract Operations at Lakeside’s Belgium facility, the position he held prior to his current assignment.

Rosina Food Products, Inc. announced the promotion of two of its operating directors to vice presidents for their respective divisions. Tom Finn has been named vice president – Consumer Products Division and John Zimmerman to the post of vice president - Foodservice Division. Finn and Zimmerman will have the responsibility of leading their divisions including providing the overall direction to the sales and marketing teams.  They will jointly lead the sales and marketing efforts for the company’s Industrial Division.

Sargento Foods announced the following personnel changes: Kate Krier has been named Senior Manager of Market Research for Established Products. Previously, Krier worked as a Consumer Insights Manager for MillerCoors in Milwaukee, Wis., where she was responsible for leading consumer research. Brian Rauch joins Sargento as Director of Pricing and Trade Management. Prior to joining Sargento, Rauch served as the Director of Trade Marketing and Customer Service for America Dairy Brands in Kansas City, Mo.

Erin Martin and Betty Rios have joined United States Cold Storage to fill two newly created positions. Martin will hold the position of Regional Sales Manager, Northeast and Rios will hold the position of Regional Sales Manager, Southeast. Both women join USCS with strong sales experience in distribution and transportation services. They will work under the direction of Mike Radnoti, Vice President National Sales.

 

Industry Highlights

Officials at Hanson Logistics announced today a two-year, two-phase investment initiative in the company’s Hartford, Michigan cold storage and logistics campus located on Red Arrow Highway in Van Buren County. The overall initiative is designed to support the West Michigan agriculture business with a focus on providing Michigan blueberry growers with additional resources to meet growing demand. The $2 million improvement is expected to be completed by July 2009. This first phase will increase the freezing and long-term storage capacity of the existing Hartford facility. The second phase, scheduled for 2010 at a cost yet to be determined, will include expanded deep-frozen storage space, with additional docks and infrastructure to support higher volume inbound and outbound. Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) has named Food Lion, Safeway Inc., Schnuck Markets, and SUPERVALU Retail Role Models for their extraordinary support of the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters® national public health initiative in 2008.  The companies will be formally recognized during the foundation’s annual Board of Trustees meeting on April 3 in Monterey, Calif. The four retailers, representing over 5,600 stores, were selected from the more than 60 licensed PBH retail member companies because of their efforts to promote the Fruits & Veggies-More Matters brand in advertising, POS, packaging, promotions, websites, corporate wellness programs and community outreach activities. Sargento Foods Inc. and House Party, a leading consumer activation and experiential marketing company, announced a partnership to coordinate more than 1,000 at-home parties across the country to build consumer awareness for Sargento Salad Finishers and Potato Finishers products. House Party will bring an exciting experience directly to consumers by engaging a select group of advocates to host house party events featuring the Sargento Salad Finishers and Potato Finishers products. Each party will offer an exclusive hands-on experience for party hosts to create and sample unique dishes with friends and family.
