Two Industry Leaders to be Inducted into Frozen Food Hall of Fame Harrisburg, PA – The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) and National Frozen and Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) today announced that the Distinguished Order of Zerocrats have selected two industry leaders as its 2008 inductees to the Frozen Food Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Frozen Food Digest publisher Saul Beck and The Schwan Food Company chairman of the board Alfred Schwan. The inductees will be honored at a reception on February 26, 2008, at the AFFI Frozen Food Convention in San Diego, California. The event will be held at 5:30 pm at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. “Saul Beck and Alfred Schwan are trailblazers – both unique and influential in our industry,” said AFFI President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Sarasin. “AFFI is proud to honor and celebrate their contributions. The continued success of the frozen food industry can be attributed to individuals such as these fine gentlemen, whose imagination and innovation constantly surpass expectations and ensure that the industry’s future holds limitless possibilities.” Saul Beck has served the frozen food industry for 45 years. He began his career in 1963 as a sales manager and quickly rose to become publisher of Frozen Food Digest, a leading frozen food industry publication. Mr. Beck’s editorial ability and advertising acumen have afforded him the opportunity to author more than 150 articles regarding the frozen food industry. He is an active member of AFFI, NFRA, International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses and the Distinguished Order of Zerocrats. Alfred Schwan is chairman of the board of The Schwan Food Company and an instrumental figure in the company’s rise to becoming the fifth largest frozen food company in the world. He joined Schwan’s Sales Enterprises, Inc. in 1964, where he helped develop the Schwan ice cream manufacturing and home delivery businesses. Over time, Mr. Schwan played a pivotal role in the growth of the company’s pizza business and became manufacturing director for the entire corporation. He assumed leadership of The Schwan Food Company in 1993 and became the company’s chairman of the board in November 1999. “NFRA congratulates Saul Beck and Alfred Schwan for their respective industry accomplishments and their induction into the Frozen Food Hall of Fame,” said NFRA President and Chief Executive Officer Nevin B. Montgomery. “Both gentlemen have earned the respect of their peers through their tireless efforts to continually advance the frozen food industry.” The Distinguished Order of Zerocrats is an organization of industry members whose mission is to maintain the tradition of promoting the image and advancement of the frozen food industry. The Zerocrats established the Frozen Food Hall of Fame in 1990 to honor individuals who have helped shape the industry with their hard work and dedication. Members of the Zerocrats nominate and vote on the newest inductees, and a special industry-wide ceremony honors the imagination and innovation that have ensured the continued success of the frozen food industry.
