NFRA Announces Cool Food for Kids Campaign Harrisburg, PA — National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) and
participating company brands are bringing frozen food to families this fall by
sponsoring an educational outreach program, Cool
Food for Kids, to educate children and families about important, timely
health topics.
The program will provide kids ages 8-11 (grades 3-6)
and their families with the tools and resources to make informed eating
decisions for every meal occasion.
“Frozen
foods offer a variety of options for a balanced diet, are packaged to promote
portion control, and are a perfect component for creating a family meal,” says
NFRA President & CEO Nevin B. Montgomery, “especially if meal time is
squeezed in between sports practices and music lessons.”
The curriculum materials include lessons for
teachers and in-class activities, and also involve parents through kitchen-based
homework activities. Teachers are
under pressure to address the growing problem of childhood obesity, and few
have up-to-date health textbooks or teaching materials that reflect today’s
lifestyles. The components of the
program offer these resources to teachers at no cost.
The materials are being developed and designed by
education curriculum specialists Young Minds Inspired, and will be distributed
in September 2008. Cool Food for Kids will be supported by
themed point-of-sale material and an Idea Book designed by NFRA to provide
members with the resources to carry the excitement into the stores. The
outreach campaign will include a consumer Sweepstakes and a Sweepstakes for
participating teachers, and the activities and information developed for the curriculum
will also be available for use by NFRA members all year round.
