NFRA Announces Gold & Silver Penguin Award Winners
March National Frozen Food Month Marks 20 Successful Years

Harrisburg, PA – March National Frozen Food Month celebrated its 20th successful year of increasing frozen food sales across the country. Thanks to the many extensive promotions, the frozen food category saw incremental sales of $90 million according to Information Resources Inc. Frozen dollar sales outpaced the remainder of the store by 4%, the greatest level in the last ten years! Such a sales increase would not be possible without the support of the entire industry in merchandising and promoting frozen foods.

In recognition of the outstanding promotional efforts of the frozen food industry during March National Frozen Food Month, the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) recently sponsored its annual Golden Penguin Awards Competition. NFRA honored 42 Gold Penguin winners and 52 Silver Penguin winners out of hundreds of entries from across the country. Click here for a complete list of winners.

Seven winners will be honored this year with a specially designed amber penguin commemorating three consecutive Gold awards in the same category. Receiving a Gold award for the third year are Arizona Frozen and Refrigerated Foods Association, Atlas Cold Storage, Co-Sales Company, Harris Teeter Inc, Ingles Markets, Kraft Pizza Company and SGA/Houck Sales Company.

During an intensive two-day judging process, winners were chosen in a variety of categories. Judges looked for the best creative effort which included use of the new Bring Us To Your Table! Freezer Favorites logo during a full 30-day program. Winners clearly demonstrated their promotional efforts through the use of in-store consumer programs, advertising, community service and education, creative use of merchandising materials and special displays.

Golden Penguin Awards will be presented at the 2003 National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention to be held October 19-23 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Winners will be recognized during a special awards luncheon on Wednesday, October 22. Silver Penguins are typically presented at the local level at appropriate frozen food association meetings.
