NFRA Convention Hosts Nationally Acclaimed Speakers Fred Barnes and Dave Dravecky Harrisburg, PA – A highlight of the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention is its renowned speakers that enlighten and inspire attendees each Convention morning. At the 2007 Convention, October 13-16, 2007 in San Antonio, Texas, delegates will have the opportunity to hear from political analyst Fred Barnes and former major league pitcher Dave Dravecky. At the Monday October 15 Breakfast Session, Fred Barnes offers an insider’s look at the presidency and Congress. With over 20 years of reporting on Washington politics, his analysis and predictions are among the most on-target of anyone covering Washington. He reveals the stories that lie beyond the hype – and details how those stories will define the future. Fred co-founded The Weekly Standard, the most influential political journal in politics today and often considered the handbook for American conservatives. As a regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group, he was an early participant in the now-crowded field of weekly political roundtables – a format that transformed the world of broadcast news. At the Tuesday, October 16 Breakfast Session, NFRA will present former Major League pitcher, Dave Dravecky. In 1988, Dave’s 5-1 opening day victory over the Dodgers was overshadowed later that fall by the discovery of cancer and the removal of half of the deltoid muscle in his pitching arm. Defying all odds, Dave came back to pitch once again in the Major Leagues, a 4-3 win for the San Francisco Giants. Sadly, five days later, he threw “the pitch that could be heard round the world.” Dave’s arm had split in two. Slowly the treatment and the cancer ate away Dave’s arm and simultaneously his career. Finally, the arm along with Dave’s shoulder blade and left side of his collar bone had to be amputated for fear the cancer would spread and take Dave’s life. In the book, When You Can’t Comeback, written with his wife, Jan, Dave describes his loss. His presentation examines the true worth of a man.
