NFRA Convention Delegates Can
Capitalize on Tips HARRISBURG, PA The 2004 National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention to be held October 23-27, at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC, will feature educational sessions for retail and foodservice from three industry authorities. A General Session, hosted by ACNielsen will track key consumer trends that are shaping our industry. Among the trends: Health issues - from low-carb diets to obesity to diabetes and several points in between; Aging - the graying of America is having a significant impact on where people shop and what they buy; Ethnicity - America has always been a melting pot, but never before have key ethnic groups wielded so much buying power; and Speed of Life - dual-income households, long hours, and long commutes have combined to make time the new luxury. Each of these trends will be viewed with an eye on the implications for the refrigerated dairy and frozen foods industries. Two industry workshops will also be offered with one focusing on retail trends and the other on foodservice issues. Customized Consumer Insights You Can Use! by Refrigerated & Frozen Foods Retailer magazine (RFFR) is based on original consumer research that focuses on shopper insights that can be used to build incremental sales and profitability for frozen and refrigerated food merchandisers. RFFR will present findings and analysis of a shopper survey done in 2004 by Stamford, CTÑbased Insight Express in cooperation with NFRA. Delegates will gain new knowledge on how low-carb diets are affecting consumers shopping habits, which new channels are drawing frozen and refrigerated shoppers away from traditional supermarkets, how to get more traffic down the aisle and much more. Foodservice for Thought! Making the Grade in the Obesity Battle will be presented by EastWest Creative. At no other time have young people been as challenged to choose the "right stuff" as they are today. No longer is it only drugs, smoking and drinking to avoid. Now "inactive activities" such as videogames and instant messaging are increasing along with portions of high caloric foods, that teens are facing a health crisis with potentially devastating consequences. The Foodservice for Thought workshop will outline a real world approach designed to help industry professionals to achieve meaningful results by acting like a "marketing coach." By delivering knowledge and decision-making skills, (packaged ready for todays kids to consume) foodservice providers will be ready to serve their needs and the needs of their young and nutritionally inexperienced consumers.
