Golden Penguins Awarded in Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties Display Contest

Harrisburg, PA — The National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association’s (NFRA) third annual Ice Cream & Novelties Promotion hit the frozen aisles in June and July with a Retail Display Contest for the coveted Golden Penguin award and a $12,500 Summer Favorites Consumer Sweepstakes.

Gold and Silver Penguins were awarded for the best display in six regions — Northeast, Southeast, East Central, West Central, Southwest and Pacific/Western. NFRA recently honored 16 Gold Penguin winners and 17 Silver Penguin winners. Click here for a complete list of winners.

The Display Contest took place between June 1, and July 31, 2004. Retailers, sales agents, manufacturer representatives and local associations competed in the contest which required them to build three different displays during the nine week promotion, containing at least one ice cream and one novelty product of the sponsoring brands. The display had to promote the Summer Favorites $12,500 Consumer Sweepstakes and use the Bring Us To Your Table! ^® Freezer Favorites slogan.

Award winners will receive industry-wide recognition at the Golden Penguin Awards Reception & Banquet on October 26, 2004 during the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention in Washington, D.C.

The Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties Promotion is part of NFRA’s Bring Us To Your Table! Freezer Favorites campaign. This all-industry promotional effort was introduced in 2002 with the objective to bring more consumers into the frozen food aisle and increase usage/sales across all product lines by promoting the convenience, quality, taste and meal solution aspects of frozen foods through a warm appetite-appealing presentation of the category.

NFRA is a non-profit trade association representing all segments of the frozen and refrigerated foods industry. Headquartered in Harrisburg, PA, NFRA is also the sponsor of June Dairy Month, June/July Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties promotions and October Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Festival. NFRA holds the annual National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention in October.
