March is National Frozen Food Month!Harrisburg, PAThe National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) has been coordinating the March National Frozen Food Month promotion for 21 years because its been proven that promotion in the frozen food department works! For nine of the last ten years, the frozen department dollar growth during March has outpaced the rest of the store. In fact, the frozen department has outperformed the rest of the store by as much as 4% in dollar sales. Within the frozen food department, the percentage of change in dollar sales versus the prior year has been as much as 6.1%. "The positive sales results that are generated for many brands, categories and the whole department, keep the entire industry committed to this promotion year after year," says NFRA President/CEO Nevin B. Montgomery. More than 37 million consumers nationally will hear about March National Frozen Food Month in an FSI run in major newspapers on February 27, 2005. The three-page FSI will feature coupons and package shots of the sponsoring manufacturer brands and will direct consumers to NFRAs consumer website, www.BringUsToYourTable.com, to enter the $10,000 Freezer Favorites Sweepstakes. In addition to a chance to win the sweepstakes, the Bring Us To Your Table! website offers consumers year-round access to meal solution ideas, recipes, preparation and storage guidelines, games for kids and much more. At the retail level, NFRA is encouraging display activity with the distribution of March National Frozen Food Month point of sale materials. The March promotion is part of the larger Bring Us To Your Table! Freezer Favorites public relations/marketing campaign, and POS materials incorporate the Bring Us To Your Table! logo and showcase the taste and quality aspects of frozen foods through appetite-appealing food photography. To reach even more consumers, NFRA is sending a press release to over 10,000 newspapers nationwide to announce the many savings opportunities consumers can find in the frozen food aisle during March. The press release will deliver key messages about the benefits of using frozen foods, as well as feature a frozen food recipe. The same type of media effort in March 2004 reached over 49 million consumers. Another incentive for the industry to promote frozen foods during March is the chance to win the prestigious Golden Penguin Award. The Golden Penguin is recognized throughout the industry as a symbol of excellence in the merchandising of frozen foods. Winners receive industry-wide recognition at the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention, October 8-12, 2005, in San Francisco, CA. A complete rules brochure is available from NFRA or can be downloaded from the NFRA website at www.nfraweb.org.
