Analysis shows US consumers are consciously planning fewer shopping trips and scrutinizing their discretionary spending with more diligence. Many consumers plan to spend more on corporate brands/private label and use more coupons as their uncontrollable fuel/energy costs increase. As expected, these attitudes and behaviors vary dramatically by income levels.
