2007 June Dairy Month Golden Penguin Winners Announced
June Golden PenguinNFRA has awarded twenty-five Gold and forty-three Silver Penguins in recognition of outstanding merchandising for the 2007 June Dairy Month promotion. Gold Penguins will be presented at the Grand Awards Banquet on October 16 during the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention in San Antonio, Texas. The Golden Penguins for the Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties Display Contest have been awarded in each of six regions: Northeast, Southeast, East Central, West Central, Southwest and Pacific/Western. In total, there were thirty-two Gold and forty-six Silver awards. Gold Penguins will be presented on October 16 at the Grand Awards Banquet in San Antonio, Texas. Boost Frozen Food Sales in October with Fresh Ideas in Frozens

The Eastern Frosted Foods Association will be holding a 70th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, October 6th at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton in Wood Cliff Lake, NJ. The Honored Guest will be Joe Sheridan, Vice-President, Wakefern Food Corp. Wakefern is the wholesale merchandising and distribution arm for the ShopRite Supermarkets and Price Rite stores located in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Delaware. Henningsen Cold Storage Co. recently announced promotions and new hires. Eric Mauss was promoted to the newly created position of Chief Financial Officer. Mauss is a CPA and has been with the company for 8 years and most recently held the position of controller. Paul Henningsen was promoted to Vice President, Corporate Development and Engineering. Henningsen joined the company in 1987. He is responsible for the development, design, construction and management of all capital projects. Greg Chavez was promoted to Warehouse Superintendent at the Portland, Oregon Logistics Center. In his new position, Chavez will be responsible for daily warehouse operations including scheduling, truck traffic and load planning. Alan Schill was appointed to the newly created position of Administrative/Customer Service Manager at the Portland Oregon Logistics Center. Schill will be responsible for the daily management of office and customer service operations.

Unified Grocers recently appointed Richard E. (“Dick”) Goodspeed, a retired retail food industry executive and consultant, to serve on the Board of Directors for the remainder of the current term, which expires in mid-February 2008. Goodspeed’s appointment fills a vacancy that was created two months ago when directors voted to expand the size of the Board from 15 to 16 members. Goodspeed is an experienced executive who has spent 45 years in all areas of retail management at some of the nation’s largest and most successful retail grocery chains before retiring in 1998. He has spent the last nine years working on consulting assignments for a variety of food retailers and consumer packaged goods companies, including Harris Teeter, Safeway and Pillsbury to name a few.

Henningsen Cold Storage Co. recently announced their Temperature Controlled Logistics Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania was awarded SHARP (Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program) status by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA). Scranton joins Henningsen’s Twin Falls, Idaho and Grand Forks, North Dakota operations in being SHARP certified. Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) recently announced, in cooperation with the makers of Hidden Valley® ranch dressings the expanded Love Your Veggies™ Nationwide School Lunch Campaign for the 2007 – 08 school year.
